La Concha Beach in San Sebastian

When you think of Spanish beaches, chances are that the first to pop into your mind are the golden sands of the Costa del Sol or those of the Balearic Islands.

However, some of the best loved beaches in Spain are actually those that face the Atlantic ocean and not the Mediterranean.

One such amazing beach is that of La Concha!

La Concha beach is situated in the city of San Sebastian in the heart of Basque country on the northern coast of Spain.

San Sebastian is well known for its diverse gastronomic delights. Locals and visitors are renowned for their passionate attitudes to all things food and drink.

From the many secret dining clubs to the culture of the pintxos* bar to the wealth of restaurants boasting Michelin stars.

Amongst all this foodie excellence, it can be slightly lost by the wayside that San Sebastian also possesses the fabulous beach of La Concha.

The beach itself is actually better described as a bay which curves so far round as to resemble a vast horseshoe. The sands are classically golden with a good depth of beach to match its impressive length.

Behind the beach is a graceful promenade affording the beach a link with the city of San Sebastian.

The bay it faces is impossibly beautiful with the ‘ends’ of the horseshoe bookended by gorgeous forested-green hills. In the centre of this perfect bay is a lone island, the Isla de Santa Klara.

So after a day strolling the beach, lazing on its fabulous sands, working on that tan and taking a dip in the waters, head into town for an early evening sherry and embark on a pintxos bar tour.

What are you waiting for?! Book your trip to La Concha and San Sebastian now!

*Pintxos are the name given by locals for small “bar bites” more commonly known in other parts of Spain as Tapas.
